Your retirement plans are too important to take chances on inferior bullion or coins at inflated prices.  Choosing your dealer carefully is important to insure that you get as much bang for your buck as possible.  Gainesville Coins is one of the dealers that may be a good fit for your individual needs.

What is Gainesville Coins?

Gainesville Coins opened its doors for business in 2006 after intensive planning and preparation.  The founders wanted to serve those investors that needed storage and education as well as competitive prices.

What We Like About Gainesville Coins

Gainesville Coins has a great website that is user friendly and includes many tools to help you build up your gold IRA or other Gainesville Coinsprecious metals wealth.  You can initiate a price level alert to let you know when the precious metal of your choice reaches a certain price, compare products side by side, and opt to be notified when an item is in stock or they get a new item you’re looking for.  An IRA tab offers assistance in buying bullion for your retirement fund.  It even has a clearance section you can browse for bargains.  They even have professional numismatists on site to offer their expertise to collectors and investors.  You’ll also find a blog that connects current events and global conditions affecting the price of and availability of gold, offers news and analysis and is easy as well as entertaining to read.

Gainesville Coins takes security very serious.  In addition to offering segregated storage (the product you store is separate from other clients’ purchases) they have enough onsite generators to supply the facility with 2 weeks of power.  Over 200 cameras monitor every inch of the facility and each order is videotaped prior to shipment.

What We Don’t Like About Gainesville Coins

While Gainesville Coins has a great, user friendly website and we found many positive reviews from happy clients, we don’t like the number of complaints regarding delivery issues.  In addition, those whose purchases went well describe great customer service while those clients that had issues claim the exact opposite.  It’s clear that Gainesville Coins could benefit from giving their customer service representative a refresher course in customer relations.

Gainesville Coins Review Sites

The BBB  (gives Gainesville Coins an A+ ratingThere have been 35 complaints in the last 3 years with 9 closed in past 12 months.  There are two each about advertising issues and billing, 19 regarding delivery problems and 12 complaints about the product quality and condition.  All were closed with customer satisfaction.  There are no government actions past or pending.)  Update:  Gainesville Coins maintains its A+ ratings.  The BBB now lists just 3 reviews, only 1 of which is positive.  There have been 4 complaints in the last 3 years and 1 in the last 12 months concerning delivery issues, product complaints, and billing problems.

Yelp (lists a couple of complaints about fees imposed when an order is cancelled and issues with customer service.  There are compliments about Gainesville Coins’ stock, especially Panda silver coins that are hard to find, and clients that are happy with fast shipping and fair prices.  The good and bad reviews are about even.) lists 7 negative reviews and 8 positive.  Complaints are mainly concerned with delivery and product issues and poor customer service.

CitySearch has 3 reviews, two of which compliment the quality of the merchandise, great customer service, and very competitive prices.  The sole negative review complains that an order was not received after a month and that Gainesville Coins demanded additional shipping charges in order to recover that order.

Kudzu listed two complaints, one that was positive and a duplicate of the complaint that we found at CitySearch regarding shipping charges.

TrustLink, Ripoff Report, and Insider Pages had no reviews regarding Gainesville Coins.

Conclusions and Recommendations

WHY (4) 3 Stars Gainesville Coins earns (4) 3 stars due to the variety of products, large inventory,  helpful and user friendly website, and technologically advanced security and storage.  However, it loses points for customer service complaints and especially for delivery issues.  Overall, Gainesville Coins is not the worst place to buy or sell bullion but the two issues that people complain about most keep it from earning a more enthusiastic recommendation.  Update:  We removed one star from our rating for Gainesville Coins because of their customer service issues; several of their customers complained of hostile treatment when they registered complaints and that is not acceptable.
